Edinboro-McKean VFW Post 740 To Award Scholarships – Apply Now!

The Edinboro-McKean VFW Post 740 will be awarding 3 – $1500 Scholarships to eligible seniors from General McLane, Northwestern, and Ft LeBoeuf High School.

To qualify, you need to have an acceptable grade point average, have applied to the college, university, or career school that you plan to attend, and have a financial need. Applicant must also be willing to attend the awards luncheon on May 22, 2011 at the VFW Post 740, where the checks will be awarded. Winners will not be asked to read their entry at the awards banquet.

Winners will be notified by mail and contacted by phone. Please ensure that the entire application is completed and accurate. Applications must be mailed to VFW Post 740 and be postmarked no later than April 15, 2011.

Christmas Craft Fair – St Lawrence Church – Albion

The Annual Christmas Craft Fair held at St Lawrence Church, in Albion, PA is scheduled for Sunday November 21 from 9am to 3pm. Enjoy crafters, food, bake sale, and Chinese Auction. All proceeds from this event will benefit the St Lawrence religious education program.

The Erie Center On Health & Aging is again conducting flu shot clinics all over the area. One will take place in Edinboro on Sept 23. The clinic will we held in the social hall of Our Lady of the Lake Church, 128 Sunset Drive, 10:00 a.m. – noon, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

In Albion, October 5th, at St. Lawrence Church, 129 East Pearl Street, Albion, 9:00 a.m. – noon.

In Cambridge Springs, October 5th, Cambridge Springs Senior Ctr., 156 Venango Avenue 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

In Girard, November 13th, St. John’s Parish Center,Rte. 20, Girard, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

There is no upfront cost, and they will bill all insurance companies, including Medicare and Medicaid

Ride for the Refuge, Homeless Shelter 09-06-10

Come join our 11th Annual Charity Bike Ride Sept 6th, enjoy the fresh air, get some exercise, and raise some money for those in need. The ride will be taking place in 2 locations: Shades Beach in Harborcreek and Albion Borough Park. The ride will start at 8:30 am, food and refreshments as well as snacks along the ride routes will be provided. You will also receive a free T-Shirt if you pre-register! Area Farmer’s Markets Open Weekly

Area Farmers Markets are full of great produce. Every Wednesday at Goodell Gardens, in Edinboro from 3 to 6pm you will find great offerings of locally grown produce and plants. This market is timed so you can stop on you way home form work. It began on July 7th and will run for 12 weeks!
This year the Albion Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a Farmers Market in Albion, PA every Friday from 10am to 6pm. Location is on Smock Ave, right next to the Albion Fire Hall. For more information on this market contact Amber at 814-756-4133
If you’re still looking to stock up on blueberries for the winter the berry picking is in full swing at Hulings Blueberry Farm, on Rt99 north of Edinboro. There is also a great produce market too.
Wherever you end up, the area has a bounty of produce available and it’s never tasted better than “fresh picked”
