Lucas Announces More Than $300,000 in Fire and Ambulance Grants

Rep. Greg Lucas (R-Erie/Crawford) today announced more than $300,000 in state grants will be provided to local fire departments and ambulance services in the 5th Legislative District covering parts of Erie and Crawford counties.

“Fire departments and ambulance service companies provide vital services for our communities,” Lucas said. “The men and women who serve in these capacities save lives and protect local neighborhoods. They answer the call when residents are in need. This funding will help them to fulfill their important mission.”

Funding for the grant program is garnered through state gaming proceeds. Last session, the General Assembly voted to extend and expand the program so that more companies throughout Pennsylvania will benefit from the successful initiative. The grant program is administered by the Pennsylvania Office of Fire Commissioner within the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA).

The grant funding now provides up to $30 million each year to assist with construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reducing existing debt.
