The Concert Band of Northwest Pennsylvania conducted by John Fleming will present its 2019 Spring Concert on Sunday, April 7, at 3:00 pm. The concert will be held in the Louis C. Cole Auditorium on the campus of Edinboro University and is free to the public with no reservations necessary.
The Band and the concert are sponsored by the Music and Theatre Arts Department of Edinboro University.
The theme of the concert was chosen to focus on friends, past and present. As the Band’s membership changes, the pieces that they play will reflect their thoughts of those friends they remember while expressing the promise of the Band’s bright future.
They will give the premiere performance of the “Alexander Suite.” It was composed for the Band by Dr. Leroy Williams in memory of his friend and colleague, Dr. William P. Alexander. A short movement from one of Dr. Alexander’s works will also be played.
The other featured work on the program is “Where Lark nor Eagle Ever Flew” composed and published by James Curnow in 1993. Works that are based on tunes from Puerto Rico and from England will also be included. Two fine new marches will set toes to tapping as will one by John Philip Sousa.
