General McLane Students Become PSIA-Certified Ski Instructors

Edinboro, PA (March 20, 2018) This weekend, nine General McLane students and an alumn became certified ski instructors through the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA).

Students included Spencer Conaway (11th), Katie Johnson (10th), Jessie Johnson (12th), Nicole Foulkrod (12th), Hannah McDermott (12th), Dylan Mroz (11th), Ryan Flanagan (12th), Ashley Burhen (11th), Nick Halmi (11th) and Parker McDermott (’13). They all serve as instructors at Mount Pleasant.

By completing and passing the PSIA Level One Ski Exam, they joined a professional organization with thousands of members. This exam and certification requires hours of training and studying and is one of three standardized exams used by ski areas across the country.

According to Andrew Halmi, manager for Mount Pleasant, the examiner has taught these courses for many year and said that he has never seen a group of students so well prepared, polite, engaging and eager to learn and expand their professional knowledge.

“They exemplified what it means to be a Lancer,” Halmi said. “They are fantastic ambassadors in there community to start, but this professional certification will only increase what they are able to give back to the community!”

Each year, hundreds of General McLane students take lessons via the various programming at Mount Pleasant.
