It all Comes Down to Trust.

Trust is HUGE in this business. If you trust me to list your house, you’re trusting me to tell you the truth about everything, to make decisions based on my hard earned knowledge and previous experience, and to advocate for you from start to finish.

Last week I had the words “I don’t believe you. You’re lying to me” spat in my face. I don’t hear it very often (thankfully!), and every time I do it’s like I have run into a wall. It’s always the same feeling – going along just fine and then, wham! A complete stop.

Now, in the effort of full disclosure, especially if anybody knows me from waaaaayyy back, I used to lie a lot. I would lie to try to stay out of trouble, I would lie in the hopes that I wouldn’t get caught, I would lie to say what people wanted to hear. I was also a kid. I didn’t even have my drivers license yet. I was lying about homework and bedtimes. Let’s just say I’ve grown quite a bit since then, and, while my mom still scares me, I don’t worry about anybody knowing what I have or haven’t been up to. I’m to the point where my integrity is worth more than any commission.

It all comes down to trust.
It all comes down to trust.

I know it doesn’t do anybody any good not to know the truth, especially in my profession, where we are influencing two big factors in someone’s life – their money and where they live. I tell people the truth. Their house isn’t selling. It’s overpriced. It smells like cat. None of this makes me popular, but it does make me effective. I’m not mean about it, sometimes I probably sugar coat it more than needed, but at least you’re getting the news you need to hear.

So when someone shows me that the trust between us is missing? I mentally hit a wall. I know that if they aren’t going to believe me with the small thing then we have no hope for working together on the big things. It’s time for both of us to move on. I calmly reply with “This clearly isn’t a good fit. I am going to free you up to find someone you trust.”

At home, Christie

On any given day I’m a full time real estate agent, momma and chief wrangler of two kids and two dogs, married to a guy who essentially hunts and fishes for a living, and happy residing on the outskirts of Erie, PA. Sometimes I fool myself into thinking I have superpowers, except my cape is usually in the laundry…I hope. It’s all in a day’s work.
