Monday is Memorial Day in the USA. This is normally a day set aside to remember those who have given their lives in the service of our country. Like many other holidays the real meaning is sometimes lost in the other activities that become part of the day.
For many there is a holiday from normal work activities, and as the so-called “un-official start of summer”, many family events and outings are planned. Perhaps we should take some time to honor those who sacrificed for our freedoms and remember them also on this day.
This is by no means a complete list but local events include:
Memorial Day Service at Edinboro Cemetary, Sunday May 29. Music by the Concert Band of Northwest Pennsylvania will begin at 6:40pm and a memorial service at 7:00pm
Memorial Day at the Edinboro-McKean VFW Post 740 at 12 Noon a ceremony at the flagpole, with remarks by the Commander and a 21 gun salute performed by the Post Color Guard. A lunch will follow, open to the public.
