Message of Faith – Out of the Fire and Into the Light

This weeks Message of Faith submitted by Rev. Joanne Rowden

As 2015 comes to a close, you are invited to examine the experience of your life over the past 12 months to become aware of the ways you may be restricting the Christ light of your being from fully expressing in your life.

Out of the Fire and Into the Light
Out of the Fire and Into the Light

If you don’t know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else! This is a phrase I often shared in my financial education classes specifically around the flow of finances in your life. However, it applies to all areas of your life. If you are living without awareness, without intention, without goals, chances are you are moving through the changes in your life with an experience of stress, strain and worry. Every moment of every day provides you with an opportunity to move through your life consciously being the greatest manifestation of you.

Change is a part of life. Perhaps there are new relationships, or relationships you have let go of during the past year. Perhaps your job situation has changed. Perhaps your family has grown. Perhaps you have lost someone you love. Perhaps your finances are better or worse than they were a year ago. Perhaps you moved or updated your home. The possibility of change is endless. Without a doubt, there is some area of your life that is different today than it was a year ago.

Consider your life over the past twelve months. Have you experienced the fulfillment of your thoughts and desires as you began the year twelve months ago? Have you experienced disappointments? Have you experienced challenges you overcame? Have you experienced joys? Have you experienced deepened connections and spiritual growth? If change is inevitable, so then are our opportunities to grow through the experiences that change provides.

Begin to become aware of the changes you need to embrace over this next year. Where do you need to move more clearly into acceptance of people, circumstances, or experiences in your life? What greater growth is life calling you to over the next 12 months? How can you reach out and ask for help from God and from the people in your life? What abilities do you have to bring to the experiences of your life? Where are you resisting what is unfolding in your life? How can you go with the flow instead of meeting the moment with resistance? What would it mean to give yourself over to God’s will rather than insisting on your way? What would it be like if you trusted the Power of God that is within you to express in your life? What do you need to let go of in order to allow the light that you are in Truth to be revealed in your life? In the quiet of this moment, what could you imagine your life to be 12 months from now? These are just a few questions to begin the process of examining your life and making a conscious decision of where you want to be at the end of 2016.

As you move into the new year, set the intention to grow spiritually. Become aware this week of the changes that you want to embrace in your life. What spiritual practice could you commit to this year? How can you incorporate prayer more deeply in your life? In what way can you show up to move your relationships to a deeper level of health and honesty? What judgments are you being asked to release? Who needs to be forgiven? What small kindness can you extend each day?

I know that one small step taken each day toward growth and maturity will take me to a whole new level of being by this time next year.
As you and I meet the changes in our lives, we can consciously respond rather than unconsciously react. This requires awareness…of who you are in Truth; of how you are showing up in the moment; of knowing you have the ability to make a conscious choice for love.

One small practice, taken on with commitment, can change your whole life over the coming year.
