The Power of Love

Charles Fillmore tells us in The Revealing Word, “Love, in Divine Mind, is the idea of universal unity. In expression it is the power that joins and binds together the universe and everything in it. Love is a harmonizing, constructive power. When it is made active in consciousness, it conserves substance and reconstructs, rebuilds and restores us and our world.” What a powerful idea! When we are demonstrating love, we reconstruct, rebuild and restore our world!

The Power of Love is much different than the emotion of love which gets so much time and attention in the world. The emotion of love leads to songs like Love Stinks, online love calculators that help you determine whether your relationship will succeed, and articles in magazines on “how to keep a man.” The love that is spoken of in these examples is not the Power of Love but the emotion of love that comes and goes. Clearly this love that comes and goes will have little power to reconstruct, rebuild and restore our world.

The Power of Love has its location in the heart. The Institute of HeartMath has done much scientific research into the wisdom of the heart. They have discovered that the heart’s electromagnetic field is more powerful, even, than that of the brain. With tools such as the Quick Coherence Technique, The Institute of HeartMath has found simple ways to bring the heart into coherence. According to, coherence occurs in the body when two or more of the body’s oscillatory systems, such as respiration and heart rhythms, become entrained and operate at the same frequency. Creating coherence in your body reduces stress and high blood pressure while increasing the body’s immune system.
The Quick Coherence Technique is a simple meditation that you and I can do when we find ourselves stressed, and outside of the harmonizing Power of Love. According to the Institute of HeartMath, this technique can bring you to a state of coherence in as little as 60 seconds. As you release the draining emotions of frustration, irritation, anxiety and anger, a coherent state will reveal a balanced state in your thoughts and emotions which allow you to experience ease and inner harmony.

To practice the Quick Coherence Technique, begin by simply focusing your attention on your heart center and imagine your breath flowing in and out of your heart. Breathe slowly and deeply. The second step is to simply activate a positive experience by calling to mind deep loving appreciation for someone or something. Simply breathe in this experience as you shift into a coherent state. This simple practice will activate the harmonizing power of Love that will harmonize your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and ultimately your life experience.

As May Rowland tells us in Dare to Believe, “If you are not attracting the good that you desire in your life, learn to express love; become a radiating center of love; and you will find that love, the divine magnet within you, will change your whole world.

Knowing that Love is the harmonizing Power, this week use the harmonizing Power of Love in your communications with others. Commit to speaking from your heart. Commit to speaking honestly and humbly. Commit to listening intently with an open heart. Commit to creating an atmosphere of trust, safety and peace in your heart to heart communications.
