Robert Anthony “Tony” Damore of McKean. Started as a cubscout in 2012 and earned Eagle Rank in Dec 2016 with Boy Scouts of America, McKean, PA Troop 73, part of French Creek Council.
His parents are Rob and Kelley and his Scoutmaster is Mike Zentis.
Only 1% of all boys involved in scouting attains Eagle which involves earning all previous ranks, serving in a leadership role in their troop for 6 months, and earning at least 21 merit badges (though most earn more). They must get letters of recommendation from their teachers, clergy, and civic leaders and complete an Eagle Scout project that serves their community which involves planning, financing, and managing each part of the process. Finally, they must complete two culminating interviews with their troop and council leadership boards.
Tony is one of 5 young men from the same Cub Scout den from McKean Elementary School who are earning Eagle Scout rank this year in Troop 73. The others are Andrew Zentis, Brody Wise, Louis Scouten, and Jacob Lenhardt. All 5 boys are seniors at GMHS. They’ve been working toward this ultimate goal as scouts for 12 years – going camping together, hiking, doing community service projects, leading younger scouts, and of course, getting merit badges.
For his project, Tony lead the effort to build an equipment shed for Golden Cemetery on Old Rt 99, did some landscaping, and donated more than $300 for continued maintenance of the grounds there.
