March 17, 1926 ~ March 17, 2022 (age 96)

Helen Rose Hudy Shields, 95, of Edinboro, died Thursday, March 17, 2022 at the Edinboro Manor. She was born on Sherrod Hill Rd., in Edinboro, on March 18, 1926, the daughter of the late Michael and Anna Koman.

Helen loved golfing, bowling and reading. She enjoyed taking trips to the casino with her children and playing Bingo. She also enjoyed decorating her house on 6N for every occasion and won many contests for it. She was a social member of the V.F.W.

A time never to be forgotten – at the age of 74, she was putting up Christmas bows in a top window of her house when the window sill gave way and she was stuck hanging for about 40 minutes upside down, until the men at Thor-O-Tire heard her hollering. They pulled her to safety and after some time, she continued to decorate!

At a young age of 17, she started her working career at the Riverside Inn. She then worked at Penn Union for 27 years before retiring in 1984, and volunteered at the Food Pantry for an additional 21 years.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Matthew Hudy in 1977, her second husband, Glenn Shields in 2001; a son, Thomas Hudy in 2009; a son-in-law, Lee Bochert; a granddaughter, Teri Banks LeGrand, 12 siblings, Mike, Andy, John, Frank, George, Peter, Steve and Susan Koman, Julia Cykoski, Ann Lotempio, Mary Jacobik, Emma Cirincione; and a great great-grandson, baby-Levi.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean Bochert, of Edinboro; a son, Dennis Hudy of Edinboro; four grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Bochert, Tina (Sid) Otteni, and Michael and Dan Hudy; 8 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren; also her close friends, Jan Benini and Bunny Buck.
