Shirley Patricia (Carter) Hayes was born on January 28, 1935 in Milroy, PA to William and Myrtle (Shank) Carter. She met and married William Hayes in her early 20s.  They had one son, Gregory Hayes.  

Shirley earned her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Edinboro State College in the mid sixties.  She was a teacher at Neason Hill Elementary School in Meadville, PA, retiring after 30 years.  Shirley was a lifetime member of  Eastern Star in Edinboro for over 50 years.  She died peacefully in her sleep on April 11, 2022 at the age of 87.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, parents and several brothers and sisters.   She will be missed by her loving and devoted son, Greg and his wife, Carolyn; her caregiver and best friend, Susan Niebauer; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may express their condolences at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie St., Edinboro, PA from 12:00 to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, with an Eastern Star service and funeral service immediately following, officiated by Rev. Greg Gillespie of First United Presbyterian Church of Edinboro.
